Suuns are an enigmatic band. Dangerous and compelling, like first love or a contraband cigarette.
They make eerily beautiful, meticulously played music that embraces opposites and makes a virtue of cognitive dissonance. Their songs hold secrets that are revealed only on close listening. Their music finds space and silence sitting algside. It’s organic electronic. Psychedelic austerity. Cold sensuality. A sacred drift.
Suuns have always seamlessly blended the programmed and played. Their brand of dark, melancholy electro-rock is bewitching, and radiant in live settings. We’re hugely excited to bring them over for a series of livehouse shows. Suuns, after all, burn brightest at night.

They formed in Montreal 2007, when singer/guitarist Ben Shemie and guitarist Joe Yarmush got together to work on some demos, soon to be joined by Liam, Ben’s old schoolfriend, on drums and Max Henry on synth. Their group’s first two records, 2010’s Zeroes QC and 2012’s Polaris Prize-nominated Images Du Futurwere immediate critical hits, and Suuns soon found themselves part of a late ‘00s musical renaissance in the city, alongside fellow groups like The Besnard Lakes, Islands and Land Of Talk.
In 2015, they released a collaborative album with the fluid and trippy ambient music project ‘Jerusalem in my Heart’. The release coincided with a long string of global tour dates, sending Suuns on the road for an extended period. The live show, built and refined during this time, is truly both a sight and sound to behold – part live show, part installation, part club – it is an all-round sensory experience. They’ve built a fierce reputation as one of the best live bands out there, playing well-regarded gigs alongside Wilco, Julia Holter and Savages, among others.
In March 2018, Suuns released Felt, which breaks with Suuns’ earlier darkness for a more optimistic ambience. It’s playful, trippy, loose, laconic and colourful, with a leaner, meaner live show to match. As unpredictable as suunlight breaking through the clouds. Don’t miss them on their China debut.
