We’re Back:Rabbit’s Foot Mini Festival,The Fence Collective,Milow and more!

Salutations, Split Works faithful! It’s starting to cool off here at Split Works HQ in Beijing and we can feel the nip of fall on these gorgeous August evenings. For music lovers all over China, fall means one thing – the October holiday music festivals. Though this year has seen the cancellation of Black Rabbit, we have amazing news for you: There WILL be a Split Works music festival this fall, and it is called Rabbit’s Foot Music Festival. Full announcement, and flurry of Split Works updates, awaits you below.

ANNOUNCING RABBIT’S FOOT MINI FESTIVAL

Earlier this year, as we were in the planning stages for Black Rabbit, we were contacted by many musicians eager to participate in the festival. Over the course of planning the festival, bands large and small were all ready to take this stage this fall. When news of the cancellation came through, we wasted no time in looking for a solution for our artists, fans and ourselves. Today, along with our partners Taihe Live, we’re proud and excited to announce the result:Rabbit’s Foot. Although it’s not another Black Rabbit, we hope you’ll join us in welcoming some very talented artists to Shanghai this October.

Who are we bringing? Well, there’s Milow, an earnest Belgian singer-songwriter whose biggest hit is a cover of 50 Cent’s “Ayo Technology.” There’s Terror Danjah, the “Godfather of Grime”. The Gar will be there – one of China’s most-beloved indie bands. So will The Inspector Cluzo, bringing funk rock but no bassist – never a bassist. Come and see innovative, genre-bridging Norwegian post-rockersCaves of Steel. Rounding things out are young Manchester rockers Third Cortez. There will be more local artists and DJs TBA – do you have any suggestions for us?

Rabbit’s Foot Mini Festival

Fence Records and The Fence Collective subscribe to a fierce DIY, lo-fi, analog ethos, with most members living and recording out of remote locations in the east of Scotland. The label’s output is reserved exclusively for members the Collective – a loose-knit amalgam of singer-songwriters, musicians, bands and electronic artists, who collaborate with one another on record, as well as on stage.

BELGIAN SINGER-SONGWRITER MILOW COMING TO BEIJING + SHANGHAI

Beijing: Tuesday, October 2nd @ MAO Livehouse
Shanghai: Wednesday, October 3rd @ Rabbit’s Foot Mini Festival

Milow is the stage name of Belgian singer-songwriter Jonathan Vandenbroeck. A true DIY success story, Milow’s self-released his first album, The Bigger Picture, in 2006 on his own label, spawning the hit single “You Don’t Know.” Three studio releases, one live album and a startling folk-pop cover of 50 Cent’s “Ayo Technology” later, Milow’s records have shifted over 650,000 copies and he has performed extensively in Europe and the United States. Milow burst onto the international scene in 2008 when he played an impromptu cover of 50 Cent’s “Ayo Technology” during a radio visit to promote his album Coming of Age. The cover went over so well that Milow released it as a single, garnering him praise from sources as disparate as Kanye West and TIME Magazine. This October, Split Works brings Milow to China for the Rabbit’s Foot Music Festival as well as a solo headlining date in Beijing.
