Kurt Vile is a bonafide indie-folk mastermind.<\/p>\n

His soaring solo career, buoyed by the critical acclaim that greeted 2015\u2019s b’lieve i’m goin’ down\u2026, <\/em>has bought him a newfound mainstream visibility, one he wears with nonchalant ease. Vile\u2019s evocative, dreamy, finger-picked acoustic tunes are freighted with compelling word-play, and a floating forcelessness that folds itself around you. Their melodies nestling snugly in your mind. His songs \u2013 candid, and brilliant and focused \u2013 are almost like folk hymns. Seemingly timeless, yet always of the moment. Sonic Youth\u2019s Kim Gordon is a big fan. \u201cHe\u2019s a man with an old soul.\u201d<\/p>\n

On stage, alongside his band the Violators, the laid-back, wavy-haired Vile is tender and evocative, elusive but companionable. \u201cTough in the gut but giddy in the head.\u201d<\/p>\n

Float away Friday, October 14 in Shanghai <\/strong>and Sunday, October 16 in Beijing. <\/strong>On support duty in both cities, the cozy, whispery, nostalgia-drenched blues rock of Uncle Hu<\/strong>, recently signed to the influential D-Force Records.<\/p>\n

Kurt Vile\u2019s musical career started with lo-fi home recordings, often in collaboration with singer Adam Granduciel. The two subsequently formed the indie rock band The War on Drugs<\/em> and released their debut studio album, Wagonwheel Blues, <\/em>in 2008. At the same time, Kurt began seeding his solo career, with his debut Constant Hitmaker<\/em> (2008) on Gulcher Records.<\/p>\n

Two more well-received albums followed in 2009 – God Is Saying This to You…<\/em>and Childish Prodigy<\/em>, and Vile\u2019s music slowly began to take the woozy, beguiling form it holds today \u2013 with the support of his backing band The Violators. By this point, Vile was a true cult artist \u2013 recommended by indie record shops and tastemakers the world over. 2011\u2019s Smoke Ring for My Halo<\/em> even sneaked in to the Billboard Top <\/em>200.<\/p>\n

By the time Kurt\u2019s fifth studio album, the radiant Walkin on a Pretty Daze, <\/em>was released in 2013, he was an indie institution unto himself. \u201cBest New Music\u201d on Pitchfork. <\/em>Loving coverage in NME <\/em>and Drowned in Sound. Daze.. made <\/em>a number of \u2018Best of the Year\u2019 lists, and was described as his \u201cmost spacious, becalmed record yet\u2019.<\/p>\n

2015\u2019s b\u2019lieve I\u2019m going down, <\/em>on the seminal Matador Records, was Kurt\u2019s breakout moment \u2013 if he ever needed one. Sonic Youth frontwoman and countercultural hero Kim Gordon called him one of \u201cindie rock\u2019s most gifted guitarists.\u201d The album won more accolades than this press release can accommodate, including a chart-topping single (\u201cPretty Pimpin\u201d)<\/p>\n

We\u2019re beyond excited that Kurt Vile is finally making his China debut. Friday, October 14 in Shanghai<\/strong> and Sunday, October 16 in Beijing<\/strong>. It\u2019s going to be moody, drifting, echoic, profound.<\/p>\n
