The self-titled record, \u00c9milie Simon<\/em>, won Album of the Year at Victoires de la Musique<\/em>, a prestigious French music award ceremony.<\/p>\n Born in Montpellier in Southern France, Emilie grew up bathed in the Mediterranean sun and immersed in the sound of clarinets and electronic melodies.\u00a0 Wishing to imbue her second album with a more wintry and polar vibe, she began to record sounds that related to coldness.\u00a0 Coincidentally, in the midst of her search for sounds for the album she was contacted by film producer Luc Jacquet\u00a0to compose the original soundtrack for his Oscar award winning documentary film\u00a0La Marche de l’empereur <\/em>(March of the Penguins<\/em>), concerning the annual migration of\u00a0emperor penguins.<\/p>\n In 2006 Emilie went on to triumph at the Victoires de la Musique<\/em> ceremony once again, winning the award for the Best Original Film Soundtrack of the year.<\/p>\n In 2009, Emilie started writing songs accompanying herself on a piano, rather than a computer. \u201cI even forbade myself to go near a computer for a year and a half,\u201d Emilie said, \u201cI wanted to see what I was capable of without my usual comforts around me.\u201d The result was a collection of sounds reflecting Emilie\u2019s impression of New York City — an urban, black and white musical that became her most recent album, The Big Machine<\/em>.\u00a0 On this album, Emilie\u2019s experimental inclination involved the clever use of traditional Chinese instruments together with keyboards as a vestige of her long stay in the heart of Chinatown.<\/p>\n How appropriate.<\/p>\n Shanghai \u2013 Friday \u2013 September 24<\/p>\n @ Dream Factory<\/p>\n 4\/F, 66 Yuyao Lu, near Xikang Lu<\/p>\n RMB 80 (presale) \/ RMB 120 (door)<\/p>\n Hong Kong \u2013 Saturday \u2013 September 25<\/p>\n Presented by The People\u2019s Party<\/a><\/p>\n @ Grappa\u2019s Cellar<\/p>\n Jardine House, 1 Connaught Place, Central<\/p>\n HKD 260[:zh]<\/p>\nEmilie Simon China Tour Dates:<\/h1>\n
