Mysterious Orchestal Dream-Pop: for fans of Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, Beach Boys<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Black Atlantic is the Groningen (The Netherlands) based acoustic pop band formed around singer and songwriter Geert van der Velde, former frontman for American metalcore group\u00a0Shai Hulud<\/a>. The Black Atlantic released their debut album \u201cReverence for Fallen Trees <\/a>\u201d digitally for free (worldwide) on August 21st, 2009. It has since been downloaded over 100,000 times via various\u00a0torrent websites <\/a>,\u00a0the band\u2019s own website<\/a> and it\u2019s label Beep! Beep! Back up the Truck.<\/p>\n

The Black Atlantic made its first live appearance, in one of many incarnations, at\u00a0Eurosonic <\/a> 2007. Since then the band has maintained a steady diet of touring with a revolving line-up around van der Velde (and for the past 2 years Janssen), sharing the stage with bands including Midlake<\/a>, Woven Hand<\/a>, The Tallest Man on Earth<\/a>, The Cave Singers<\/a> (Split Works friends from way back<\/a>) and The Antlers<\/a> (who also appear on \u201cReverence for Fallen Trees\u201d).<\/p>\n

The band has played\u00a0Filters Culture Collide Festival <\/a>in Los Angeles,\u00a0CMJ Music Marathon <\/a> in New York City,\u00a0NXNE <\/a> in Toronto, and\u00a0SXSW <\/a> in Austin, TX, one of the world\u2019s largest music festivals. The Black Atlantic has been invited back to play SXSW in 2011.<\/p>\n
