This summer, Deafheaven embarks on a worldwide tour that will jar the foundations of some of China’s greatest livehouses. With their hybrid of black metal, Pitchfork calls them a “modern classic” bound to forever change the landscape of black metal, while Stereogum boldly claims their sophomore album, Sunbather as “very much a masterpiece.” Split Works have lined up two stops in May for metal-heads in Beijing and Shanghai.
The group formed in February 2010 in San Francisco by vocalist George Clarke and guitarist Kerry McCoy. After rave reviews of their first demo drop, Clarke and McCoy recruited three additional musicians – bassist Derek Prine, guitarist Nick Bassett of the shoegaze band Whirr (formerly Whirl), and drummer Trevor Deschryver, who responded to an ad on Craigslist, to form a five-piece group. Newly honed Deafheaven played their first shows in July 2010. A switcheroo brought in current members drummer Korey Severson and Joseph Bautista (also a member of Whirr) on guitar.
Their musical style is what gets critics so excited. Instrumentation leans towards shoegaze and post rock while vocals scream and hiss in respect to black metal’s best bands. Founding Deafheaven member McCoy describes Sunbather as being “faster, darker, a lot heavier and far more experimental” than debut album Roads to Judah. We are a bit excited (and a little scared) to present a rare foray into the dark side. Don’t hold back.

2014年，在经历了后摇－花伦，重型后摇－And So I Watch You From Afar之后Split Works终于迎来了后黑金属 Deafheaven——美国年度最热门自赏黑金乐队即将来华！
2010年Deafheaven还是一支由主唱George Clarke和吉他手Kerry McCoy组成的双人组合。二人在成功发布首张同名Demo专辑之后，便开始在金属圈子里逐渐走火，并于同年招募新成员签于Deathwish Inc.旗下，随后在2011年发布了首张专辑《Roads to Judah》。该专辑收获了包括《Decibel》和《RVA Magazine》的各种好评，并平凡出现在当年各大年度榜单上（包括NPR、Pitchfork Media和The A.V. Club等）。MSN Music还将Deafheaven奉为2011年度最佳音乐人。
现在，乐队由五位成员组成，除了最初的Clarke和McCoy，贝斯手Derek Prine、吉他手Joseph Bautista以及鼓手Korey Severson的相续加入让如今的Deafheaven更加所向披靡。第二张专辑《Sunbather》已于2013年6月发布，除了本来就别具一格的“自赏黑金风格”之外，新专辑还融入了浓厚的Shoegaze与后摇元素，使Deafheaven独特的黑金风格更进一步地“丰富”起来。《Sunbather》理所当然地受到了极高的评价，在知名综合点评网站Metacritic音乐榜单上位居前五，可谓是美国2013年最受追捧的金属专辑之一。
