Thanks heaps to everyone for your kind support of Split Works, JUE | Music + Art and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Presale tickets for the Shanghai show are SOLD OUT but you can still pick up tickets at the door price at Mao. There are limited numbers of presale tickets still available in Beijing, or you can try your luck winning tickets from the BeijingerCity Weekend. In the meantime, the band has prepared a special greeting video for all of their Chinese fans, aka you! Watch ithere.

Like trivia? Here are 6 things you probably didn’t know about The Pains of Being Pure at Heart:

1. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart got their name from the title of an unpublished children’s story written by lead singer Kip Berman’s friend.

2. The band’s gigs in the US and Europe have historically attracted a disproportionate number of skinny dudes in the audience.

3. The first time the group played together was at a birthday party for current keyboard player Peggy Wang. The performance was so successful that the members decided then and there to start the band.

4. For the first 8 months of the band’s existence, before drummer Kurt Feldman formally joined, they used an iPod as a substitute drummer both in rehearsals and on stage (!)

5. Vocalist and keyboard player Peggy’s ideal man? He should have floppy hair, wear soft sweaters, and not have any tattoos.

6. Winston Chmielinski, who painted the cover art for the band’s second LP Belong, spent 4 months studying Chinese at Peking University in 2009. We wonder if he saw any gigs when he was in Beijing…

For more factoids, come out to Shanghai on the 24th or Beijing on the 25th to experience The Pains of Being Pure at Heart’s first shows in mainland China.
